(Press Release)

Six flavors from cajun to jalapeno

Fry wafer-thin slices of a banana-like vegetable from India, add spices from Mexico to the Louisiana bayou and beyond, and what do you get?  Grab Em Snacks Plantain Chips, a new gourmet chip alternative that marries disparate cuisines to deliver a multicultural munchie that goes well with anything from burgers to Bordeaux.

Photo of Sea Salt Plantain Chips & IngredientsMade from green plantains that have not yet sweetened, Grab Em Snacks chips have a potato-like taste with an underlying hint of banana and six different choices of seasoning  from Sea Salt to Black Pepper Spice, Red Chili, Chili Garlic, Jalapeno and Cajun.  (Hot, hotter, hottest!)
They’re pan-fried in small batches and slivered so thin that they absorb relatively little corn oil, delivering just 8 grams of fat with only 1 gram of saturated fat per serving.  The plantain origin also packs an extra punch of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and potassium, and the product contains no additives or preservatives.

Created by a gourmet cook who grew up in India and Malaysia where homemade plantain chips are a menu staple, the chips are a variation on a family recipe inspired by the American melting pot.
Grab Em Snacks Plantain Chips are available in 1/4, 1/2 and 1-pound bags.  Prices for a one-pound package vary from $6.75 to 8.50 depending on the flavor.  They are sold at gourmet food stores and online at

Feeling Spicier Than Sweet This Valentine's Day?

The Metro Herald, Feb. 9, 2007

It is believed that in medieval times, girls ate bizarre foods on February 14th to incur dreams of their future spouse. Nowadays, women eat bizarre foods, or food in general, to escape from the reoccurring nightmare known as the dating pool of the Twenty-First century.

Well, if one must snack, one might as well snack healthy; who needs candy hearts and other unnaturally pink foods when you can turn up the heat with entrepreneurial chef Geetha Jayaraman’s spicy innovations?

Crunchier, healthier and modernly appropriate for the occasion are Grab Em Snacks’ gourmet plantain chips. Depending on one’s mood, or perhaps on their current romantic status, six flavors are available, including Sea Salt, Red Chili, Jalapeno, Chili Garlic, Black Pepper Spice and Cajun.

“For some people, Valentine’s Day comes with more spice than sugar,” says Ms. Jayaraman, president and founder of GrabEm Snacks (

“We’re offering consumers a delicious alternative to spice up your Valentine’s Day without the health burden and calories of typical junk food. Whether you’re vegging at home or throwing a party, our gourmet plantain chips are a great way to turn up the heat on Valentine’s Day.”

And for those who would like to get down and dirty in the kitchen this February 14th, spicy plantain recipes are available online at
